Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024

Each October we join the national effort recognize and promote Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) by accepting proclamations from key governmental offices, hosting campaigns on school campuses, providing educational presentations and displays, and participating in numerous community events throughout Napa County.

The theme of Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024 is “Hold, Heal, and Center.” This October’s campaign calls on all to embrace the many cultural ways we can heal, hold space for survivors, and center those most marginalized in our efforts to end domestic violence.

We are thankful for our Domestic Violence Prevention Champion The Doctors Company for their support to end domestic violence in our community.

How is NEWS recognizing DVAM?

Check out the various activities below – and be a part of the movement!

PROCLAMATIONS

Each year, officials from the cities of Napa, St. Helena, Calistoga, and American Canyon, the town of Yountville, and the Napa County Board of Supervisors declare their support of DVAM with a Proclamation at one of the meetings in the month of October. NEWS representatives receive them with gratitude and humility, and know that we are not alone in our efforts to bring awareness to and prevent domestic violence.

HAPPY HOUR FOR HOPE

On October 2, NEWS is hosting its first ever Happy Hour for Hope fundraiser. Presented by Kaiser Permanente at Wilfred’s Lounge in downtown Napa, this is an event not to be missed to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Funds raised will support survivors on their journey towards safety and healing!

PAWS FOR PEACE

Paws for Peace

You can support this campaign by visiting a participating Napa Valley restaurant, winery, or hotel. $1 for every drink, bottle of wine, or tasting fee sold at participating locations will be donated to Paws for Peace from October 10-31.

Every dollar raised will go toward

  • Pet Deposits for pet friendly rentals
  • Pet Food + Supplies
  • Veterinary Care
