NEWS Chosen as a 2024 California NonProfit of the Year by Cecilia Aguiar Curry

NEWS is proud to announce it has been selected as a 2024 California Nonprofit of the Year by California State Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar Curry. NEWS is one of more than one hundred nonprofits that will be honored by their state senators and assemblymembers for their outstanding contributions to the communities they serve.

Now in its ninth year, the Californian Nonprofit of the Year initiative provides the opportunity for each California state legislator to recognize a nonprofit organization doing outstanding work in their district. The program culminates with a celebratory luncheon at the Capitol on California Nonprofits Day, which this year is June 5.

NEWS is incredibly proud, honored, and humbled by this recognition. We couldn’t do this work without our community’s support. Thank you for trusting us to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse in our community.

Supporting American Canyon Students

As many of you have heard, there was a highly publicized sexual assault case at American Canyon High School last month. The case has shocked the school and our community. We have been part of the response from the beginning, and are so proud of our SAVS team who met the need for education and healing in our community. Our team has worked closely with Napa Valley Unified to provide educational sessions for parents, teachers, and students. Last week, our three SAVS advocates were on ACHS’ campus sharing with students the signs of sexual abuse and what to do if you see the signs.

Don’t forget: NEWS offers confidential YOUth Matter Healthy Relationship Coaching at 13 local middle and high school Wellness Centers. While the school year might be ending, our advocates are available year-round. Access our online Self-Referral Form HERE to be put in touch directly with our YOUth Matter coaching staff.

If you are experiencing abuse or would just like some information, please call our help line, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
