The next NEWS domestic violence counselor training begins February 2009! This is an exciting and powerful way for you to return to the grass roots of what started NEWS -- volunteer activism. For over 25 years, Napa Emergency Women's Services has been assisting victims of domestic violence and their children in
NEWS Volunteer Policy A 40-hr training is offered to community members interested in providing volunteer services to our clients. Participants are chosen based on their ability to be open-minded, non-judgmental, good listeners, caring, and their emotional preparedness to work with women and children in crisis. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, language, or disability. To fully understand and complete the training, participants must have an advanced conversational level in English. To have more options to meet the needs of the community we encourage bilingual individuals to apply. All Training Participants commit to providing direct services to clients for six months and must be fingerprinted. All volunteers are encouraged to take the training and provide crisis support based on the comfort of the client, which comes first.
