Board Committees Napa Emergency Women's Services (NEWS) Board of Directors is a volunteer group of community leaders representative of the demographics of Napa County, who meet monthly and as needed to set agency policy and serve onworking and advisory committees.
The Executive Committee is comprised of the officers of the Board: the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Immediate Past President. The Executive Committee sets the agenda for board meetings, identifies action items and discusses current agency issues reviews and recommends policy; acts on behalf of the board. The Finance Committee oversees the maintenance of the agency's fiscal position and ensures that adequate and correct accounts of receipts and disbursements are maintained. The Board Development Committee assesses board membership needs, recommends new members for consideration by the board, oversees orientation of new members and identifies board training needs and opportunities. The Fundraising Committee leads and advises the board on its annual and periodic fundraising events. All Board members are expected to actively participate under the direction and coordination of the Committee. The purpose of the committee is to ensure that the agency's contributed income goals are met. The Personnel Committee reviews NEWS' personnel policies and makes recommendations as needed to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. It oversees the hiring and employment of the Executive Director, investigates grievances and recommends action to the board and also serves as an advisory body for the Executive Director when necessary.
